Is Venezuela open or kind to gay & community?

I am planning a trip to Venezuela and from there I will most likely travel outside to the other latin american countries. As a , I am scared I might get bashed! Has anybody ever been to that part of Latin America and know or seen gay people who are accepted? Any information would help.
