I want to get a tattoo that symbolizes rising over great adversity and coming out triumphant.?

But I don't want the cliche' Phoenix rising above the ashes that everyone has. Do you know of any clic symbols or stories that might help me find the perfect symbolic image? I want a symbol for the concept of THRIVING! Thanks for your help.
